This was the month of... outings. I think. Haha!

August started out with the Passion concert, of course. And then on August 2 we went out for Lorain's birthday, which resulted in three blog posts! Sleep, Rain, and Spying at Burger King, which is basically about...sleep, rain and Burger King. Haha! I also made a Cyma Greek Taverna food review (That restaurant rocks!) And then there was that Trinoma Cinema FAIL when we watched Dark Knight.

After all that I was sick for four days. Stress not so much because of my day job but because of my side web programming projects.

After much reluctance (and overwhelming curiosity) I finally watched My Sassy Girl 2008.

And then, for the first time in forever, I had cravings. Yikes.

Wrote about programming codes and wedding dresses, too, before writing an Open Letter to the Security Guard Inspecting Bags.

Problogger had another group writing project, and, again, I joined it. This time my entry was on How to Create Characters and Make People Love Them.

August had been eventful, but to top it all off was an EPIC night of EPIC proportions. The Eraserheads Reunion!!! It was an awesome, rocking, surreal night, that, even though I was so tired, my mind was buzzing so badly over the events into the wee hours of the night, I HAD to blog about it. I thought it was a scatterbrained post, but I ended up getting quoted by a professional writer. Haha!

And then right before the new month began, I started on my birthday wishlist for this year. Yey!

Man. That was a lot of posts! I wonder if I'll end up with this many posts in September, too.

Aiya. So many things happening, my blog can barely keep up!

I finally finally blogged about Goya Dark Mint! Most might know that I hate mint, so this might be an interesting read for ya.

And yes, maybe you've already heard the rumors, but a COWBOY BEBOP LIVE-ACTION MOVIE is in the works! Yup, live action! Not like the animated Knockin' on Heaven's Door (which, just for the record, rocks hard). No, this time it's with living, breathing people on the screen!

Check out my Plurktastic Plurk theme! Want me to make you one? Just say so! :) Oh, and I'll be celebrating my 2nd month in Plurk soon!

I joined Jason Mraz's We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. drawing contest after he added me up. Woohoo! I like my entry. Heehee. If you have an entry, too, share it! :)

And here's a couple of August updates, because it's already August. Hehe.

I went to the superduper awesome Passion in Manila!!! It was so awesomeeeeeee!

And lastly, I've got David Archuleta's Crush mp3 and lyrics up. Yey Archey makes a comback on my blog! Haha!

Before anything else, I would like to announce that my panda has a name now: Coco! :) Thank you to everyone who suggested a name for him!

Ayt. This month it's been raining cats and dogs, and I can only wish that it rained blog posts, too. Haha!

New posts
I'm going to Eiga Sai 2008! I've been planning to go for several years now but I never did. This year, though, they're showing Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time), which, many of you may know to be my favorite animated movie.

The blockbuster movies continue! I missed Wanted (huhuhuuu) but I got to watch Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D! Er... but I only got to watch it on 2D. But it still rocked! Hopefully I'll get to watch Mamma Mia and the Dark Knight this week. Keep spoilers away from meeeeee!

My second most favorite band ever (defeated only by the Beatles)... the band that shaped Philippine music... ... are going to have a concert! YES! The Eraserheads are having a reunion concert for a night! Rumors have been circling around, and this month, the rumors are proven true.

Despite my resistance to WordPress, I'm going to WordCamp Philippines 2008. It's a really good place to learn stuff I'll be using anyway, plus it's free. Wait. Let's try that again. It's FREE!!! So...yeah. See you there!

As I said, it's the rainy season right now in the Philippines, so I wrote a little something something on rain, writing, and price hikes.

Oh, and here's a site update that I don't usually do, but should do once a month. (I hope I remember I said this.) Here are the most visited ramblings : July 2008.

#5 Loving Will
Hm. So I guess students are researching Will this season. And they're probably having a hard time appreciating Shakespeare! Hehe.

#4 I'm Yours Reggae
Yey for Jason Mraz! I said it once, I'll say it again: I love this song.

#3 iGoogle Teahouse Ghost Captured
If this wasn't anywhere in the top 5, I'd be surprised. Haha! This page remains to be my most popular post of all time.

#2 Eraserheads reunion concert, as mentioned above. This post climbed the charts pretty quickly!

And my most visited page for June-July is my movie and music reviews! Hehe. This is probably because I've written quite a few the past month, and people are interested in movies recently because of the summer blockbusters.

That wraps up this month's update! If you'd like to subscribe to my journal so you can get new posts as I publish them, subscribe to my feed!

I've been working on a several changes on this website, but it's taking me forever to finish them. Haha! When I do, though, there's going to be a couple of hours' down time, I think.

In the mean time, let's run down the recent updates.

Books
If you're one of the people who have been waiting for Jacob and the Heiress, the only thing I can promise you is that I'm constantly working on it. Of course, sometimes I can only write one or two words a time, but know that I am trying to whack at it. For what it's worth: Victoria and the Rogue is on my bedside table, and I pick it up whenever I have time.

Photos
I've uploaded an armful of old photos... My deviantArt subscribers may have seen it before. But if you've only been looking at my gallery from this site, then check out my photoblog :)

Random Snowflakes
On June 6 I took a Facebook quiz on what kind of bride I'm going to be.

I posted my Ten Favorite YouTube Finds. Care to share yours?

There's a Buhay Coke ng Bloggers party, and I'm going!

With the last stretch of summer movies, I watched Kung Fu Panda, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, The Incredible Hulk and Get Smart.

And, finally: I have a new pet panda! Help me give it a name?

I still have yet to finish some posts (and, as previously mentioned, some other stuff in the site) so watch out for those :)

The past two weeks, I've been relatively active in blogging! Yey! I really want to go back to blogging regularly, twice a week at the very least, and I think I've been doing splendidly the past two weeks.

May 28: After the American Idol dust settled, enter Yael Naïm.

May 29: Love Jason Mraz like I do? Love I'm Yours? Check out I'm Yours with more aloha.

June 1: One of the reasons for my blogging absence is over, so I blog about it! Read about Campus Harvest Manila, from the outside.

June 2: Happy happy, joy joy~ Nodame Cantabile Paris Chapter is coming in October!

June 3: I've abandoned my sketchpad long enough. So I shall join Drawing Day 2008!

June 5: Kala nyo kayo lang may Underdog? Meron din kami! And so I wrote for the love of Habagat!

Yes, I promise to post about something aside from American Idol 7. But for now that's what I have. Haha!

David Archuleta Top 3 night
In this Moment

Right. So Aside from American Idol, what's happening in my life is...

  • I've taken up being a beta reader in FFnet. I've always like writing and editing, but this time it's sort of an "official" job.
  • I'm weighing options and looking to see if I have the time and resources for seriously monetizing a blog (whether the current or future one)
  • Work has been crazy because we've got a MAJOR event to prepare for and cover... and then one of my teammates is getting married so my workload has doubled @_@
  • And a few other things that I can't publicly write about yet. Nyuuuu~

David Archuleta for the win!!!

I mean, seriously. Don't say that he's going to win just because he's a cutie therefore he's popular even if he doesn't have as much talent as Cook. I say NAY! Both of them are very talented... It's just a matter of genre, and whether or not they perform well at the right time.

...And, yes. I've slid back into American Idol. Meh. I shall stop now.

Not to suck up or anything, but I just gotta say that my webhost, Page.ph totally rocks. If you're looking for an affordable web server and/or domain name registrant, I totally recommend Page.ph. I've never had down time and the people there are sooooooooooo nice, and they always respond quickly to questions and other concerns. Heehee.

*ahem* Moving on.

Following the tradition set by my HanaKimi post, I made a short write-up on the Nodame Cantabile TV adaptations.

After a hundred gazillion years, I finally attended another blogger event and wrote some iBlog4 ramblings after getting home. And, wow, today, eight of my friends (all non-bloggers, actually) came up to me and said, "Hey, I saw you on TV! It's about that blogging event thing..." And I didn't even know that they were airing the coverage already. Argh. I should watch TV more often.

I bid farewell to a dear friend... My starfish earring. *sigh*

So, yes, because I've been oh-so-busy with oh-so-many things, I didn't notice that my domain name was oh-so-very-close to expiring. (In case you're wondering, yes, my domain registrant was e-mailing me reminders, but I just kept saying: 'Yeah, yeah, later.')

So, anyway: I took care of it, and I'm actually transferring to another registrant that works with Page.ph, my current web hosting provider, so that I only have to talk to one company about my webbie.

"Why the down time," you ask? Well, it's because my domain name is expiring in a couple of days, but the transfer takes more than a couple of days. I'm hoping that things will go without anybody noticing, but I can't be too confident about that. :(

So, if the domain does go down for a couple of days, I'm going to temporarily set Blogger to store stuff in http://sarahcada.blogspot.com. Ayt? Ayt. ^^

On to the updates: Posts for March - April!
Across the Universe Review - So, yes, I'm a Beatles fan
Which Programming Language Are You? and other geeky quizzes
Own You C, totally cool video by the guys at Buck

February was the month that I...

...began to redesign my website, and just when I was about to finish the design, I stopped. Don't ask why. I don't know why.

...watched movies!!! The Spiderwick Chronicles rocks! Becoming Jane was nice, too ^_^ 27 Dresses was okay. Happy Feet was fun! I still can't believe I didn't get to watch this one on the big screen. Oooh, ooh! and revisiting The Little Mermaid was just...ARGH! I so love that movie.

...read books! Current reading list: Jane Eyre, Howl's Moving Castle, Persuasion, Neverwhere. I finished Victoria and the Rogue in one sitting... And I wish to put Pride and Prejudice and Twelfth Night back into my bookshelf. Soon.

...wrote stuff. I finished Nathaniel and the Orphan, and I'm trying to start on Jacob and the Heiress.

...began blogging frequently again... only to stop... only to blog again. Yey! Wrote on my wedding date, a Shakespearean website that rocks, the history of 'apir', and a manga that I read.

...chose my American Idol.

And, in the spirit of awards fever, I present to you my blog's top topics for February 2008...
Jose Rizal: Katamaran is the most visited page of the month!
HanaKimi TV
iGoogle Teahouse Ghost Captured
TokiKake: The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is also part of the top 10.

Seeing that I don't get to update my journal (or anything else) as much as I did before, I didn't want to make homepage updates just containing one teeny tiny thing. Ahehe. Thus the lack of posts. So...if you follow my journal, please check that regularly instead of the homepage. ^_^

It's Its There Their They're - A short meme on common grammatical errors.
Which Disney Princess Are You Quiz #2 - Yet another meme.
going back to the keys - What did you want to be when you grew up?
spankin' new specs - New birthyear, new look.
Loving Will - An attempt to answer the question, "How can I appreciate Shakespeare?"
HanaKimi TV - What I think about the Hanakimi TV series, Japanese and Taiwanese.
musical, visual, verbal - And STILL another meme. Heh. You know I'm too busy to write when I begin to post memes.
virus alert! - The Brontoc worm hit me. And I came out alive!
read :: October 2007 - a rundown of my Top 5 manga at the moment.
iGoogle Teahouse Ghost Captured - my most popular post, edited. Why? Because I caught the ghosts again!

Nathaniel and the Orphan now at chapter 13.

OMG, I didn't update my homepage for a month! Yikes.

Anyway, I pretty much sort of disappeared from the blogging for a while. Too busy with so many stuff that I don't have time to sit down, clear my head and write. I've been active in the Twittersphere, though, making little entries every now and then. I think if I compile all my twits I can come up with a blog entry. Haha!

Anyway, the last month I was able to come up with just 2 journal entries:
in contrast and my wishlist for September 2007.

Nathaniel and the Orphan is at chapter 12 right now, and Chap 13 is next on the list.

I've finally started a new blog (the one I've been planning for months) but since I'm still fixing it up and planning my entries, I'm not launching it yet.

So...yey.

And happy birthday to Random Snowflakes! It's now three years old! Lalala~

When I was a kid, I was always excited when we went on trips to my dad's province. It was fun to watch the horizon slowly go from flat, then slowly rise to a couple of jagged faraway hills, to finally rise to be green mountains until we drove into those mountains themselves.

I logged into Analytics today, and I was reminded of that as I looked at my stats. Heeeeheeeheee.

Thanks to Sara's advice, I modified the look and feel of my website. Beth said she liked my layout, so I didn't touch that at all. (Plus I spent too much time over it to change it after one day!)

Now, my webbie has more...umm...curves on them, and the colors are more subtle. (Again, thanks to Sara.) I think I got too used to designing and critique-ing (yes, I know that's not a word) web designs for businesses, that it seeped into my blog. Hehe. (For those who don't know, I work as a web designer.)

So yey! New graphics for the webbie, up!

Also, I already uploaded the first chapter to my first ever fanfic! Hehe. Check out Nathaniel and the Orphan, especially if you're a Nicola and the Viscount fan, a Meg Cabot fan... Or even if you're neither. I hope your read it and give me feedback! For now it's up in Fictionpress.com, but I'm planning to transfer all my "books" into my home here. We'll see when that'll actually happen, because that's a whole lot of chapters!

And yey! Thanks to Renee and everyone else who joined the Name Project, more people are getting interested to send entries! I'm hoping I can post another batch (and review another winner) by next week. ^_^

Labels: , , ,

Yahoo~ Ramblings gets another skin! Fond as I may have been of the last design, I kind of felt that that design doesn't quite suit the website anymore. This one is a bit more business-y looking... It's kind of a bit too business-y looking, though. I'll make modifications in the graphics, most likely... But at least I got the layout pegged. (For now, anyway.)

-

The Name Project now has its first batch of entries! And a winner, too! Read about it here: The Name Project Batch 1

-

There's a new social bookmarking site out! Check out Blipoo, where cool people share cool stories. Lookit! My Random Vandal post is in the front page!

-

After years of having reading fanfics as a hobby, I'm finally experimenting on writing one, myself. Finally! Hehe. I'm not sure when I'll "launch" it, though. I'll keep you posted!

My own post not included, I finally got four entries for The Name Project! I'm waiting for one more, and then I'll post the list. Hm. Entries are coming in much slower than I expected, but that's fine. ^_^

Although I'm very attached to my current layout, I'm making a new one, following my own advice in my TriNoMa post. I think I'll start using it next week.

Yey, I made another $40 off of my blog last week! Hehehe. I wish offers would come more frequently. Aaaaaarrrrr work work work!

The past week, I...

  1. began The Name Project. Got a name? Of course. Does it mean something? Of course. Share your story! I shared mine. List of project entries to be posted soon.

  2. made reviews for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Spiderman 3, and Bossa Nova Disney.

  3. celebrated the 13-year-old's birthday. What's going to happen to his blog's name?

  4. tried out Xpango to see if I can get a Creative Zen Video W for free.

  5. joined The $100 Challenge.

  6. saw that the The Technnorati train really does work, so I joined another viral linking thingy.

This week, I'll...
- think of more blog topics
- work
- work
- work
- upload photos, maybe ^^

As a follow-up to my previous post...

I'm very very happy to say that my stats are continually improving! I thought that, after my episode with Problogger's Top 5 Group Writing Project, my pageview count was going to plummet back down to ground zero. But, surprisingly, my pageviews had been maintained at 10-15 views/day. Not a phenomenal number, but a relatively good number, nonetheless. Compared to March's 0-2 views per day, that's really good, isn't it?

My own reaction to my traffic was funny. Part of me wanted to say "Nyerks. Just 15 views?", yet the other part of me jumped up and down at the improvement. It did take a lot of effort reading up on SEO and taking action to implement what I learned. I'm not really sure which strategy helped my traffic, though. Haha!

Linkbaiting is an art, really. I took a week to focus on getting my traffic up, and it made my Technorati ranking go from 485,994 to 99,006 in seven days. Like, whoa! (Yes, I actually kept track.)

In case you want to try and do the same thing for your site, here's the stuff I did:

I got my links out there by commenting on blogs. Aside from encouraging other bloggers by leaving a positive or helpful reaction or critique, leaving your URL on the blogs can help your linkage. When people read your comment and see how helpful you are (or how you think the same way they do), they just might click on the link and visit your site. And they just might like it! Yey for you, if that's the case.

I also joined bloglistings. There are a hundred gazzillion directories out there, and you're bound to find one that fits you best. Scroll down, and you can see the buttons of the listings I joined. All of them are free, I think, so go nuts and submit away! :)

Contests are fun because they not only give you something to blog about, but they also give you a chance to win cash, and, on top of that, get linkage! Contests usually list and link the entries, so that's link love for you.

I got on the Technorati train, but I haven't checked if anybody got on the train after me. Seeing that my Technorati authority spiked up (and people are faving my blog), I think it's safe to say that it's effective! Try it!

Heeheehee. This may not be a tutorial on how to make your site popular, but I hope you got something out of it. Good luck!

Monday, May 14, 2007

I checked out my stats today, and I'm very happy to say that my site (my journal, to be more specific) is increasingly getting readers. It's not spiking up, but the traffic increase is pretty consistent.
Random Snowflakes stats - May 14 by StatCounter

According to Google Analytics, my traffic shot up when I wrote my post on the Top 5 Worst Things They Do In Movie Sequels.

Now the challenge is to keep the traffic up (or make it higher by writing more stuff that people will want to read about, and even refer to friends. I'm not sure if my Technorati train got anywhere... If you used it, please tell me! :) If you want to get your rankings up, this is a great tool, I swear! Especially if you have other friends who will use this. ^_^

I'm slowly inclining to make my journal a help/review blog instead of a personal one. Hehe. We'll see.

On to other news, I validated my website today, and it's kind of disappointing to see 115 errors on there. *sigh* I tried eliminating all of them, but most of the errors are not in my code. Instead, they're in the code I got from tracker scripts and other widgets. How am I supposed to fix that, then? >_<

Lalala~

I decided to make my Photos section into a photoblog instead of manually putting stuff in. I'm sure there's a more fitting way of doing this, but I'm too busy to be studying other CMSs right now. For now I'm intertwining my deviantArt photography posts to this website, so expect update floods. ^_^ Right now there are six new (technically old) photos up. Comments are greatly appreciated!

Because of a review at yoursite.nu, I decided to redesign my journal to match my main site. The banner's new, the layout's new... Even the navigation's new. I got me some "pop-ups" for the former contents of the sidebar. (Note the quotes.) Hehe.

ToDos:
  • Upload new photos
  • Upload new art
  • Put up new interesting content. Bleh.
