July 2008 part 1
Before anything else, I would like to announce that my panda has a name now: Coco! :) Thank you to everyone who suggested a name for him!
Ayt. This month it's been raining cats and dogs, and I can only wish that it rained blog posts, too. Haha!
New posts
I'm going to Eiga Sai 2008! I've been planning to go for several years now but I never did. This year, though, they're showing Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time), which, many of you may know to be my favorite animated movie.
The blockbuster movies continue! I missed Wanted (huhuhuuu) but I got to watch Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D! Er... but I only got to watch it on 2D. But it still rocked! Hopefully I'll get to watch Mamma Mia and the Dark Knight this week. Keep spoilers away from meeeeee!
My second most favorite band ever (defeated only by the Beatles)... the band that shaped Philippine music... ... are going to have a concert! YES! The Eraserheads are having a reunion concert for a night! Rumors have been circling around, and this month, the rumors are proven true.
Despite my resistance to WordPress, I'm going to WordCamp Philippines 2008. It's a really good place to learn stuff I'll be using anyway, plus it's free. Wait. Let's try that again. It's FREE!!! So...yeah. See you there!
As I said, it's the rainy season right now in the Philippines, so I wrote a little something something on rain, writing, and price hikes.
Oh, and here's a site update that I don't usually do, but should do once a month. (I hope I remember I said this.) Here are the most visited ramblings : July 2008.
#5 Loving Will
Hm. So I guess students are researching Will this season. And they're probably having a hard time appreciating Shakespeare! Hehe.
#4 I'm Yours Reggae
Yey for Jason Mraz! I said it once, I'll say it again: I love this song.
#3 iGoogle Teahouse Ghost Captured
If this wasn't anywhere in the top 5, I'd be surprised. Haha! This page remains to be my most popular post of all time.
#2 Eraserheads reunion concert, as mentioned above. This post climbed the charts pretty quickly!
And my most visited page for June-July is my movie and music reviews! Hehe. This is probably because I've written quite a few the past month, and people are interested in movies recently because of the summer blockbusters.
That wraps up this month's update! If you'd like to subscribe to my journal so you can get new posts as I publish them, subscribe to my feed!

driving on into the mountain range
New on the Journal
check 'em out :: 07-04-07 - another round of linklove!
Haruhi gets melancholic. Again. - Yessssssss! Let the insanity begin!
Random Snowflakes, rated! - PG-7, 13, 17? R?
more mingle memes - So I guess I got bit by the meme bug again.
bumblejeep! - Transformers. Pinoy style.
---
When I was a kid, I was always excited when we went on trips to my dad's province. It was fun to watch the horizon slowly go from flat, then slowly rise to a couple of jagged faraway hills, to finally rise to be green mountains until we drove into those mountains themselves.
I logged into Analytics today, and I was reminded of that as I looked at my stats. Heeeeheeeheee.

quadruple!
As a follow-up to my previous post...
I'm very very happy to say that my stats are continually improving! I thought that, after my episode with Problogger's Top 5 Group Writing Project, my pageview count was going to plummet back down to ground zero. But, surprisingly, my pageviews had been maintained at 10-15 views/day. Not a phenomenal number, but a relatively good number, nonetheless. Compared to March's 0-2 views per day, that's really good, isn't it?
My own reaction to my traffic was funny. Part of me wanted to say "Nyerks. Just 15 views?", yet the other part of me jumped up and down at the improvement. It did take a lot of effort reading up on SEO and taking action to implement what I learned. I'm not really sure which strategy helped my traffic, though. Haha!
Linkbaiting is an art, really. I took a week to focus on getting my traffic up, and it made my Technorati ranking go from 485,994 to 99,006 in seven days. Like, whoa! (Yes, I actually kept track.)
In case you want to try and do the same thing for your site, here's the stuff I did:
I got my links out there by commenting on blogs. Aside from encouraging other bloggers by leaving a positive or helpful reaction or critique, leaving your URL on the blogs can help your linkage. When people read your comment and see how helpful you are (or how you think the same way they do), they just might click on the link and visit your site. And they just might like it! Yey for you, if that's the case.
I also joined bloglistings. There are a hundred gazzillion directories out there, and you're bound to find one that fits you best. Scroll down, and you can see the buttons of the listings I joined. All of them are free, I think, so go nuts and submit away! :)
Contests are fun because they not only give you something to blog about, but they also give you a chance to win cash, and, on top of that, get linkage! Contests usually list and link the entries, so that's link love for you.
I got on the Technorati train, but I haven't checked if anybody got on the train after me. Seeing that my Technorati authority spiked up (and people are faving my blog), I think it's safe to say that it's effective! Try it!
Heeheehee. This may not be a tutorial on how to make your site popular, but I hope you got something out of it. Good luck!

of validation, site stats, and other geekiness-es
I checked out my stats today, and I'm very happy to say that my site (my journal, to be more specific) is increasingly getting readers. It's not spiking up, but the traffic increase is pretty consistent.

According to Google Analytics, my traffic shot up when I wrote my post on the Top 5 Worst Things They Do In Movie Sequels.

Now the challenge is to keep the traffic up (or make it higher by writing more stuff that people will want to read about, and even refer to friends. I'm not sure if my Technorati train got anywhere... If you used it, please tell me! :) If you want to get your rankings up, this is a great tool, I swear! Especially if you have other friends who will use this. ^_^
I'm slowly inclining to make my journal a help/review blog instead of a personal one. Hehe. We'll see.
On to other news, I validated my website today, and it's kind of disappointing to see 115 errors on there. *sigh* I tried eliminating all of them, but most of the errors are not in my code. Instead, they're in the code I got from tracker scripts and other widgets. How am I supposed to fix that, then? >_<
